From Statues to Sculptures

Room 17 2012!

Our Inquiry is all about biodiversity and I can honestly say that these students have taken to it like ducks to water!

We have looked at our Inquiry topic through two key issues - Pollution and Conservation- and how to reduce our carbon footprint.

Discussions in the classroom now centre around minimizing our impact on our natural environment, and to this end, our sculpture is such that eventually, it will return to the Earth and only the explanation plaque will be the reminder of what once was...our sculpture.

Room 15 in 2012: "Two Thousand and PROUD"

We have now had two weeks of the year "Two Thousand and PROUD" in Room 15 and even had our first trip of the year with the whole school!

Our trip to the Botanical Gardens was incredibly inspiring and the every single student in Room 15 sketched, described, contemplated and imagined some wonderful sculptural ideas. We are extremely lucky to have so many talented artists in the class and are so looking forward to utilising that talent in our inquiry this term!

We left the botanical gardens so INSPIRED but also extremely TIRED from the hot, hot sun!

Our Fabulous School Leaders of 2011 (Two thousand and heaven)

Our four fearless school leaders have worked hard this year to run our assemblies and keep our school ticking over!

They are:

Raj; bubbly, soccer-mad and known for his amazing puzzling dance moves, Raj has been a committed member of the leadership team this year! He has trained up his apprentice ICT team and has provided his school mates with many exciting and interesting assemblies. Thanks Raj for all your efforts - the next head boy will have some big shoes to fill alright!

Camp Lakewood Lodge 2011

Well, another amazing week has been spent at camp.  This year we took 40 of our wonderful students to participate in a full outdoor education programme at Lakewood Lodge in Glen Murray.  It is a real opportunity to see our students use their competencies in a context beyond school. They managed themselves with maturity and persistence as well as caring for the other students they were working alongside.

Leaders of Tomorrow

This term (4) in inquiry we in Room 13 are learning how to create some criteria to identity good leaders to lead our students (eg head boy and head girl).  To start this process off  we have decided to first profile a  leader at Sylvia Park school, that is  our principal Whaea Barb. After this study we would choose some good candidates to become our class leaders in Rm 13 and have a campaign in which students get to vote for a leader.

Always Learning Something New!

 Kiaora,

Aussie-Aussie-Aussie, Oi-Oi-Oi!

Gidday everyone.  Well what a successful travel experience to end Term Three! We worked hard to transform ourselves and our classroom into the second best country in the world - Australia! We enjoyed learning many special things about Australia and we really loved taking children from S.P.S in our 'tour bus' to see seven wonderful things of Australia!

Great Start to Term 4

Room 3 welcomes seven new children to our classroom for Term Four (Alesseya, Chloe, Lexus, Khobi, Sebastian, Junior and Lolo). We look forward to working together towards an exciting last term.

The first day back we went to our very first lesson in gymnastics and are making the most of this beautiful sunshine by training every day for our cross country.  We hope all parents can come support us in the final race later this month!?

Check out our cool new album in the photo gallery - I'll be updating it every couple of weeks!

Terrific Term 4

Hi All,

Well Term 3 has passed and we are already into Term 4!

Term 4 is shaping up to be a busy but exciting term with most of Room 18 heading to camp in week 2 and everyone off to technology in week 5. Other than that we are focussing on building our number knowledge in maths and our vocabulary knowledge in reading and writing.
Our inquiry topic this term is about "What makes a great leader" and we will be holding our very own school election at the end of the term to elect our school leaders for 2012.
